Clearinghouse

Watch this learning module for a step-by-step overview of the employer Clearinghouse registration process, including information on how to link a Clearinghouse account with an existing FMCSA Portal account.

D & A Clearinghouse

The Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse registration is mandatory for all employers of CDL drivers and Owner-Operators. Scroll down for registration information.

If your company has a USDOT number, you must first setup an FMCSA Portal account before trying to register for the Clearinghouse. If you already have a FMCSA Portal account, use the instructions below to configure your account to grant access to the Clearinghouse.

REMINDER: You need to purchase a "Query Plan" so TNT can run drivers through the system, the plans never expire, most have been purchasing the 10 or 20 plan.

Forgot Login Iformation or New Admin?

If your DOT number is linked to your Clearinghouse account (aka, FMCSA Portal), The Clearinghouse would need to escalate to a Supervisor to unlink the DOT and the new Administrator would create a new Portal account as the Company Official and then link to their Clearinghouse account. Doing that will make sure not to lose any history or balance from the old account.

If the DOT number is NOT linked, The new Administrator would create a Clearinghouse account of their own and Clearinghouse support would need to send the new and old account to HQ to have them merge the information together.

Configuring FMCSA Portal

Once you’ve setup your FMCSA Portal account you’ll need to login and grant access or permission to the clearinghouse following these steps:

  1. Click “Account Management”, upper left
  2. Click “My Profile
  3. Click “Portal Roles/USDOT#” Tab
  4. Click on your DOT #
  5. Under “Available Roles” select “DACH Motor Carrier Admin” and then click “Add Role”
  6. Under “Available Roles” select “DACH Motor Carrier” and the click “Add Role”

You should see both listed as “pending” under “Requested Roles”, you’ll have to logout and wait 5-10 minutes for FMCSA to “approve” the roles. You might need to logout and log back in.

To check approval, repeat steps 1-3, under “Requested Roles” you should now see “DACH Motor Carrier Admin – Approved” and “DACH Motor Carrier – Approved”. If you don't see "approved" try again, FYI make sure you click on "submit".

If you are experiencing difficulties that are preventing you from linking to your Portal account in the Clearinghouse, please contact the FMCSA Portal Registration Call Center at 800-724-2811. The Portal Registration Call Center’s hours of operation are Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m.-8:00

FMCSA Portal Account Issues!

After you've setup your FMCSA Portal account and you get a "blank page" when trying to login and you see "https://portal.fmcsa.dot.gov/chooser" in the URL field FMCSA says they're aware of this error and currently the only fix is to contact FMCSA and have them delete your account, then have you create a new one.

I've found that the fastest way to contact FMCSA is by using the online chat feature. Here's a link that will take you directly to the FMCSA chat page https://ask.fmcsa.dot.gov/app/chat/chat_launch
